Taxes and fees
  • In Pennsylvania, labor is generally not subject to sales tax. However, there’s a key distinction when that labor is applied to a taxable item
  • Fees for labor are taxed when the labor is expended on a taxable item, such as repairs to a vehicle. This would also apply to work on appliances, jewelry, and any other items subject to sales tax. Gunsmithing services, which involve work on firearms (taxable items), would likely fall under this category.
  • Therefore, while labor itself is not taxed in Pennsylvania, the labor involved in gunsmithing services, being applied to a taxable item (firearm), would likely be subject to Pennsylvania sales tax.
